Meet Kimberly Reece, Client Experience Executive at ReleasePoint
With nearly 20 years at ReleasePoint—and even longer in the medical records industry—Kimberly Reece, Client Experience Executive, has developed an extensive specialty in life insurance underwriting. She’s the go-to person when life insurance carriers need answers, whether it’s solving production challenges, navigating detailed APS medical record and EHR data requests, or ensuring clients get the most value from their medical data.
We sat down with Kimberly to learn what makes ReleasePoint different, how the industry has evolved, and why carriers trust ReleasePoint as their medical data partner.
Twenty+ years in the medical records industry is impressive. What’s kept you at ReleasePoint for so long?
Kimberly: I genuinely enjoy working with our clients. I’ve built real relationships with them over the years—not just business relationships, but personal ones. I know what’s happening in their work and in their lives. They know about mine. When you’re working together that closely, it makes a difference.
What does a Client Experience Executive at ReleasePoint do?
Kimberly: My job is to keep clients happy—making sure everything runs smoothly, they feel supported, and they have the insights needed to run their underwriting business well.
I’m the primary client contact for our underwriting medical data clients. I help them with anything related to medical record production, order and workflow questions, and custom reporting needs.
I also run regular check-in calls with clients. Some want to connect every other week, others quarterly. During those calls, we go over the health of their account: turnaround times, order volume, spend data, and any issues or opportunities we need to address. For our clients that generate thousands of APS and EHR requests each month, we prepare detailed quarterly business review decks with data insights tailored to their needs to help them run their underwriting business even better.
What surprises new clients most when they start working with ReleasePoint?
Kimberly: We are not just a medical records company. We are a technology company—and our integration capabilities, turnaround times, custom reporting capabilities, and insights immediately prove that to clients when they join. As a result, three things consistently stand out:
First, the data access. Through RPnet, our client portal, they can see everything—real-time order status, historical data, turnaround metrics. They’re not waiting for us to feed them information. They have control at their fingertips. Other vendors just don’t offer that level of visibility.
And here’s something that really matters: when special authorizations are needed—those facility-specific forms that can delay EHR and APS retrievals—RPnet makes them immediately accessible. Clients can download the required forms, upload completed authorizations, and track turnaround times all in one place. That kind of streamlined workflow eliminates the back-and-forth that bogs down other medical record providers.
Second, custom reporting. We get a lot of requests for specific data cuts. One client recently asked for a report on special authorizations and turnaround times in 2024. It wasn’t standard, but we built it. With our technology and the data we have available, we can address 99% of custom reporting requests.
Third, RP Insights. Our AI-powered medical record summaries are making a lot of noise in the industry right now. RP Insights analyzes EHR data and APS records, automatically surfacing significant underwriting risk factors. Underwriters get structured summaries that highlight exactly where to focus their attention. Additionally, for underwriting clients, we bundle these insights into the medical records carriers are already paying for.
What do you think sets ReleasePoint apart from other medical record providers?
“At the forefront, relationships matter. I know my clients. I know their business, their pain points, and what keeps them up at night. When something goes wrong, they’re not talking to a bot or call center. They’re talking to me. With ReleasePoint, you’re not just getting a medical records vendor—you’re getting a team that cares about your success.”
From a product standpoint, here is where ReleasePoint stands out from other medical record providers:
Control and transparency: RPnet gives clients real-time visibility into their orders. They can make changes, upload authorizations, download special authorization forms—all without picking up the phone. That level of control is rare in this industry.
Special authorizations are one of the biggest pain points in medical records retrieval. When a facility requires their own form instead of a standard HIPAA authorization, it can bring underwriting to a halt. Our portal streamlines this entire process—the required form is immediately available for download, clients can upload the completed version directly, and we track turnaround times so you can identify bottlenecks before they become bigger problems. For carriers processing hundreds or thousands of EHR and APS requests monthly, this kind of efficiency makes a real difference.
Flexibility in how you receive records: Some clients just want the raw medical records. Others want AI summaries through RP Insights. Some want human-reviewed summaries. We offer different options depending on what works best for their workflow.
Custom solutions: Whether it’s a unique reporting need or a custom workflow request, we are flexible and figure it out. We’re not a one-size-fits-all medical record provider.
At the end of the day, we’re not just delivering medical records. We’re delivering the data, insights, and support that help you make better, faster decisions.
Can you elaborate more on special authorizations and why your streamlined approach is so valuable?
Kimberly: When a carrier submits a medical records request, they include a signed authorization—usually part of the insurance application. Most facilities accept standard HIPAA-compliant authorizations, but larger facilities often require their own facility-specific forms.
When that happens, the facility rejects our request and sends us their form. We then go back to the client to get it completed and signed. This is what we call a “special authorization.”
There are other reasons authorizations get rejected too—like if a facility won’t accept an electronic signature and requires a handwritten one. Either way, it means the order gets delayed while we wait for the client to provide the updated authorization.
It’s a pain point for carriers because it slows down underwriting. That’s why we track these requests closely and provide reporting on turnaround times so clients can identify bottlenecks and improve their processes. Through RPnet, everything is transparent and actionable—no more wondering where a request stands or why an EHR retrieval is taking longer than expected.
Where do you see ReleasePoint heading in the next few years?
Kimberly: AI is going to play a huge role in streamlining medical records retrieval, and for ReleasePoint, RP Insights is just the beginning.
The future of medical data in underwriting will require collaboration between carriers and their medical record providers—especially when it comes to security, compliance, and data integrity. ReleasePoint has been a trusted partner in this industry for over 25 years, and we’re committed to high standards for HIPAA compliance and data security as we innovate with technology. The best AI solutions for medical records will be built in partnership with carriers, not in isolation, and ReleasePoint is uniquely positioned to be that collaborative partner.
